Description
Summary:This book has three major sections. It begins with a discussion of the philosophy, basic purposes, and program objectives approved by the State Board of Education. Steps in curriculum development and new programs and program modifications are described. The second section outlines the standards for the approval of institution for teacher education. In the third section standards for approval of teacher education programs are listed under the categories of general studies, teaching specializations, early childhood education, elementary education, and subject specializations. In each of these categories an introduction gives a generalized picture of the particular field under discussion. This is followed by program objectives for acquiring competency in the area. Statements included at the end of each specialization indicate the possible combination of components to build a complete teacher education program. The book concludes with a discussion of the West Virginia Plan for Licensure. It describes the types of certificates that are issued by the state and sets forth requirements for certification. (JD)
