In the third section standards for approval of teacher education programs are listed under the categories of general studies, teaching specializations, early childhood education, elementary education, and subject specializations. In each of these categories an introduction gives a generalized picture of the particular field under discussion. This is followed by program objectives for acquiring competency in the area. Statements included at the end of each specialization indicate the possible combination of components to build a complete teacher education program. The book concludes with a discussion of the West Virginia Plan for Licensure. It describes the types of certificates that are issued by the state and sets forth requirements for certification.
