Summary:The report summarizes evaluation findings from 11 3-year child abuse and neglect demonstration projects. The first section includes descriptions of the projects' goals, activities, organization and staffing patterns, resources, and community involvement. Findings from studies of organizational and management processes which contribute to a positive work environment and an analysis of case management procedures are presented in the second section. Treatment methods for abusive and neglectful parents are considered in terms of impact on clients, relative effectiveness, and cost effectiveness of alternative treatment strategies. A fourth section addresses the treatment of abused and neglected children. The final chapter lists recommendations for the following aspects of successful programs: program organization and management, parent and child treatment, case management, and the community relationship.
