Summary:This document is a library instruction manual for an introductory course on library research at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The assignments provided are intended for independent study; a syllabus is included for the 7-week course. The manual is divided into seven sections. Chapter 1 provides an overview of the library system, services, and collections; floor maps of the library are included. Chapter 2 introduces the Libraries Catalog on the Innovative Research Information System (IRIS) and describes search options. Chapter 3 focuses on finding materials in the University Libraries. Chapter 4 discusses other information systems on IRIS, including the Expanded Academic Index and the Access to the Internet and Library and Information Suggestions components. Chapter 5 reviews the Specialized Databases Network and Chapter 6 discusses printed indexes and abstracts. Chapter 7 is a tutorial for developing a search strategy.
