Summary: | This publication seeks to help community leaders launch KickStart Initiatives to bring their communities onto the information superhighway. Part 1 outlines potential benefits of connectivity to individuals, to educational institutions, to businesses, and to communities. Factors influencing success in the connectivity endeavor include visionary leadership, ample technology and training, and access to meaningful information content. Several case studies are presented of schools, libraries, museums, community centers, and state and regional organizations whose KickStart initiatives demonstrate the value of these ingredients. In part 2, leaders are given suggestions on how to galvanize stakeholders, identify costs and funding sources, and promote awareness of user responsibility. Part 3 is a primer on intellectual property and copyright. Print and online resources are listed in part 4, along with sample acceptable use policies. (BEW) |
