Summary:The New Youth Entrepreneur curriculum is a series of 12, youth-oriented educational modules containing instructional materials, learning activities, and checkup exercises designed to teach students key elements of entrepreneurship. This document is the eighth module, and provides students with strategies for solving common problems involved in starting a business, reviewing the types of entrepreneurial and technical assistance available. The first section discusses the following five steps in solving problems: (1) identify the problem; (2) determine various ways to solve the problem; (3) name criteria to evaluate the various alternatives; (4) evaluate the alternatives according to the criteria; and (5) make a decision. The next sections discuss when problems are likely to occur in a business and review cases in which technical assistance is necessary. The fourth section describes the following sources of technical assistance: general and specialized experts in the field; friends, family, and neighbors; schools and colleges; libraries; governmental agencies; and national business-oriented organizations. Includes addresses of organizations providing technical assistance to entrepreneurial ventures. Lists of books written for student entrepreneurs and articles written about student entrepreneurs and technical assistance available.
