Description
Summary:During the past several years, national attention has focused increasingly on the many problems facing youth. The Federal Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act of 1974 was passed to address this growing problem. The Act stipulates that every Federal agency that administers a juvenile delinquency program must produce a juvenile delinquency development statement every year. These statements outline the legislation, policies, programs, and practices developed to combat juvenile delinquency. This report examines the level of Federal support for JJDP Act goals in fiscal years 1990, 1991, and 1992. Chapter 1 describes the missions of the Federal agencies covered by the report. Chapter 2 lists the 18 goals that have been distilled from the JJDP Act, such as "develop and implement national standards for the administration of juvenile justice", as well as "design, conduct, and provide training for those working with juveniles". The chapter also summarizes the Federal programs that support each goal and provides an overview of Federal laws that further the JJDP Act. Chapter 3 contains a brief description of the 278 programs-- alphabetized by agency and by program--covered by this report. Appendices list the addresses and telephone numbers of the agencies that sponsor the programs and furnish a complete list of abbreviations and acronyms. (RJM)
