Summary:This booklet answers parents' questions about the following: Kentucky's Writing Portfolio program, the process which leads to effective writing, and the parent's role in the development of children's writing skills. The first section discusses the stages of the writing process (prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing) and how parents can help their children at each step of the process. The next section lists the required elements and pieces that writing students are to include in the 4th-, 7th-, and 12th-grade writing portfolios. The next section discusses the portfolio scoring guide and how parents can help students improve their writing. The booklet then presents the most asked questions and their answers regarding the Kentucky Writing Portfolio.
