Description
Summary:This report provides data on faculty racial/ethnic diversity within the Oregon University System (OUS) and summarizes various OUS diversity initiatives to attract and retain faculty of color. It notes that in 1997-98 faculty of color represented 8.4 percent of all faculty (instructional, research, and public service) compared to 7.5 percent in 1995-96. For instructional faculty, faculty of color increased from 7.0 percent in 1995-96 to 9.6 percent in 1998-99. In most instances the representation of faculty of color within the OUS is lower, proportionally, than national figures, except in the case of American Indian/Alaskan Native faculty. Recommendations are provided for continuation of efforts to attract faculty from underrepresented groups and continuation of the OUS Faculty Diversity Initiative. Eight appendixes provide data on full-time faculty by rank, racial/ethnic group, and gender for the OUS and its seven constituent institutions; full-time instructional faculty by rank and racial/ethnic group; and full-time faculty from various racial/ethnic groups nationally and for selected western states.
