| Summary: | This manual for training supervisors in the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) contains a set of guidelines and suggestions organized into seven sections. Section 1 is a brief introduction. Section 2 describes determining training needs and contains a sample task statement. Section 3 covers designing the training program. It includes an outline for a supervisory training program. Preparing to teach is the subject of section 4, which includes a sample lesson plan, a chart on job instruction training, and an outline for a one-day workshop on training supervisors in SYEP. Ten training techniques (lecture, mini-lectures, discussion, buzz groups, demonstration, job instruction training, overhead questions and "laundry lists," case study, role play, and feedback) are described in section 5; case study examples and a role play section are provided. Training aids are discussed in section 6, while program evaluation is the subject of section 7, which includes sample questions for evaluating the training.
