The program was designed to encourage inner-city Philadelphia black and Puerto Rican 10-grade students who were proficient in mathematics and science to consider seeking careers in the fields of engineering technology. The program was jointly planned, executed, and evaluated by Temple University staff, Philadelphia School District teachers and counselors, and local business and industrial personnel. Ninety students participated in the project. The program's components included workshops, job placement, and job and career counseling. Results showed that 35% of the females and 27% of the males enrolled in engineering programs upon graduation. (Author/DS)
