| 520 | |a This report to Congress describes the women in development programs, projects, and activities undertaken by the Agency for International Development (AID) during the period from 1978 through 1980. Information is provided concerning AID cooperation and support on preparations for the United Nations Decade for Women Copenhagen Conference. Presented next are texts of papers from the conference, dealing with such issues as women-headed households, jobs in rural industry and services, women in forestry, women in international migration, programing for women and health, women's employment in developing nations, and formal and nonformal education for women. Outlined next are AID projects/activities in the following areas: the AID central bureau, Africa, Latin America/the Caribbean, Asia, and the Near East. A series of conclusions and recommendations are made concerning the development of strategies to increase women's participation in the social, economic, and political spheres of life in developing nations. Included among these are calls for reducing burdens on women of tasks traditionally performed by them in the home, counteracting factors that keep females out of schools and training centers, creating new employment and occupational mobility opportunities for women, and ensurinq women's participation in and access to primary health care.
