| Summary: | The Arts Curriculum Development Project is new, but the parent agency, Educational Systems for the Seventies (ES '70) is not. Membership in ES '70 includes 18 high schools with a combined student population of more than a million students. The purpose of Arts Curriculum Development Project is to plan a well rounded curriculum in the performing arts that will appeal to all students and to disseminate the findings on this curriculum widely. The objective is not to diminish student interest and achievement in science or the humanities, but rather to bring the various forms of art and art experiences on an acceptance level with other subjects. Art offerings of the participating high schools will be examined and an analysis of the plans and reports for each school will be made to get a first hand view of the activity in on going arts curriculum development. A basic objective is the effectiveness with which any art program arouses the interest and participation of all of the students. This report covers the organization of the advisory committee of professional artists and of the curriculum development team by the Director. Objectives for the performing arts program are worked out. Development is made of understanding the arts and teaching the arts. High school arts programs in ES '70 schools and elsewhere are discussed. Goals for the future in art education are shaped. Reports and memoranda circulated during the project year are included.
