Description
Summary:A conference for educators on the subject of school desegregation was sponsored by the University of California, Riverside, in the spring of 1969. Concerned school superintendents, authorities in behavioral science research, government officials, political leaders, and school board members discussed the rationale for attempting to solve racial problems in education and ways in which integration might be accomplished. The dialogue centered around research support, legal requirements, and social, political strategies. This account of the proceedings is presented in the form of representative excerpts from the comments and papers given at the conference. In addition, the superintendents agreed upon a number of recommendations which cover topics in need of research, preservice education, and inservice education of teachers. (Author/JW)
