| Summary: | The first two operational years of the Houston area Vocational Guidance Service's Group Guidance Program for minority high school youth who live in economically disadvantaged urban areas is described. The program is experimental and is designed to prepare youth to make a positive transition from high school to suitable employment or post high school training. Objectives include: (1) exposing students to national and local labor market information and manpower trends; (2) helping students learn and implement techniques for employment and career planning; and (3) facilitating job-seeking techniques. Complete program activities are described for both years. First year results indicate that participants were more aggressive in the labor force, were better equipped to enter the labor force and earned higher wages. A second year evaluative summary points to success in respect to knowledge and motivational effects on participants, staff adequacy, program-school relationships, and program relevance to the target population.
