520 | |a The aim of this cooperative EPDA program is to improve education in the public schools through utilization of personnel in a differentiated staffing pattern, and the training of teachers for service in urban areas through a carefully planned practicum combined with professional courses taught on site, with competency-based criteria interwoven throughout both phases. Released time inservice training was provided for supervising teachers before the beginning of the program and in 1970 and is continuing throughout the program. The students selected for the program are largely transfers from junior colleges throughout the state. During the first two semesters of the program, they work four half-days in the schools, first as student aides and then as assistant teachers; they spend one half-day per week working in a community service agency. The remainder of each day is devoted to professional courses given on-site by college staff. During the third semester, students work full-time as associate teachers, and in the fourth semester, they are on campus full-time for professional study. Participants are encouraged to live in the community. (The program description includes a budget outline, the original program proposal, forms used in the program, and curriculum outlines of the inservice courses.) (RT) | ||
