Summary:An attempt to direct the attention of the public school to the measurable dimensions of the affective domain is reported. A seven-step plan is provided for implementing an educational program in the affective domain: Step 1, evaluator develops and states affective goals; Step 2, evaluator determines appropriate behavioral objectives to measure goal achievement; Step 3, evaluator determines a suitable standard of student performance; Step 4, teachers instruct students about the values related to behavioral goals; Step 5, evaluator collected data on outcomes; Step 6, the data are interpreted by comparing results to the criteria of performance; Step 7, evaluator decides if program has been successful. Three major areas comprise the measurement dimensions: self report, record, and observational data. Appendices include a condensed version of the affective domain of the taxonomy of educational objectives, suggested behaviors denoting scientific literacy, and examples of evaluation instruments for the affective domain.
