| Summary: | A survey was conducted as part of the UCLA Allied Health Professions Project to determine what procedures are used in health care facility pharmacies for the performance of tasks previously selected for inclusion in a proposed curriculum for pharmacy technicians. Questionnaires were distributed to a national sample of 48 health care facilities, and the replies received from 31 chief pharmacists were analyzed. The survey results revealed that dispensing and purchasing are two subjects that should be given first priority in the development of the curriculum. Bulk compounding, prepackaging, and sterile solution manufacturing may be assigned a lower order of priority, while training in administration of pharmaceuticals does not seem to be necessary for pharmacy technicians. It was concluded that the results of this survey could be used to supplement the task list previously developed as a basis for constructing a pharmacy technician curriculum.
