The sample of day care centrs is described in terms of two major variables: population density and funding. Topics include: (1) administration and organization; (2) staff (recruitment, salaries, training, and volunteers); (3) children served (selection, exceptional child services, additional program attendance, age groupings, race, ethnic background, as well as medical services, personal hygiene training, and meal arrangements); (4) family characteristics (size, family services, parent education, and parent involvement); (5) community outreach services, (education, counseling, and referral); (6) general program characteristics; and (7) program evaluation methods.
