Standardized test results, personal interviews with university administrators, and performance of graduate students provide the data necessary for specifying the decision model. The results indicate that graduate admission requirements do not appear to conform to conventional rules of rationality. Moreover, the study indicates that Bayesian/cost-benefit analysis can make a significant contribution to academic policy questions of this type. (Author)
