| Summary: | Based on response to a mailed questionnaire, the 1969 followup study of the college and career plans of Jewish youth surveys a sample of 1,125 young Jewish adults in their mid-20s who took part in a 1961 study of the same nature in which 6,600 participated. The study found that most of the respondents believe that education will enable them to achieve their aspirations. Although most respondents' fathers held white collar jobs (mostly as proprietors), the sons do not appear to be following their fathers' footsteps. More than 95 percent of the respondents attended college. The respondents' attachment to Judaism appears to be neither consistent nor clear-cut as measured in terms of intermarriage and involvement in Jewish organizations. Of the 40 percent of the respondents who reported they had received vocational counseling since high school, only half said that the counseling influenced their occupational choice. The study concludes that it is vitally important to provide adequate educational and vocational counseling for Jewish youth, and recommends 10 guideposts for action as seen by the B'nai B'rith Career and Counseling Services to accomplish this goal.
