| Summary: | This document discusses a study of 36 level 3 exercises tried out in a single, middle-income, suburban, second-grade classroom. The following outcomes were generated for the exercises: capitalize the first letter of a sentence, correctly end sentences with periods or question marks, capitalize proper nouns, correctly use commas in dates and dialogue, correctly place quotes around dialogue, write complete sentences, and organize composition into paragraphs and indent each paragraph. The primary purpose of the study was to obtain teacher and pupil comments and observational data in one classroom, so as to identify any deficiencies or problems with the materials and teacher procedures. The results are discussed in terms of teacher affect, time per exercise, teacher directions, teacher's guide, and the effects of the various units involved in the level 3 exercises.
