Summary:The rate training manual and nonresident career course presents materials for individualized study that will assist Aviation Structural Mechanics in Hydraulics (AMH) in meeting the occupational requirements of their rating. The study materials seek to improve job skills among Navy petty officers in conjunction with their on-the-job training as well as to aid the AMH2 in preparing for advancement to AMH1 and the AMH1 in preparing for advancement to AMH Chief. The following subject areas are covered in the 11 chapters of the text: (1) AMH rating, (2) work center supervision and administration, (3) aviation supply, (4) corrosion control, (5) nondestructive inspection of metals, (6) power system maintenance, (7) brake system maintenance, (8) landing gear maintenance, (9) flight control system maintenance, (10) actuating system maintenance, and (11) general hydraulic system maintenance. Many explanatory diagrams are included. A discussion of the metric system and a conversion table are appended. An index is included. A list of minimum qualifications for advancement to AMH1 and Chief is provided. A 59-page section presents eight assignments for the nonresident career course which are based on the materials in the text. (Author/EC)
