The survey was designed to produce information useful in forecasting trends in career choice, shifts in graduate school enrollments, and available college-educated manpower. The findings indicate a two percent gain in undergraduate enrollment, with an overall greater increase in the private sector than in the public sector. By institutional type, public universities and private four-year colleges registered the greatest growth in junior-year enrollments. Data by field of study were available for approximately 80 percent of all junior year students. Over three-fifths of all students who had declared majors by the fall of their junior year were concentrated in four of the 12 major fields, as follows: social sciences (20 percent); business and management (15 percent); arts and humanities (14 percent); and education (13 percent). Statistical tables reflecting these findings are given. (LBH)
