The manuscript [of the Liederbuch] comprises ... a series of tunes without words and 108 songs in French. The composers include ... Francois André Philidor (1726-1795), Jean Philippe Rameau (1683-1764), and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, while others are unknown. The compositions themselves are from singspiels (vaudevilles), operettas and operas, or are simply popular tunes of the time.
