Abstract: | The engineering of a comprehensive data acquisition system between remote measuring stations and a central collection station is based on critical selection of options following a realistic consideration of the constraints imposed by the particular application. The appropriate partitioning of functions within the system and a sensible selection of techniques are governed primarily by these constraints and their inevitable economic consequences. The basic system considerations and constraints for an oceanographic data acquisition system are presented and discussed. Various signal transmission and conversion methods are considered. |
