Description
Summary:In this dissertation, I study government policies and their effects on the behavior and the welfare of the participants in the health care market. Chapter 2 examines how competition and information disclosure may interact to affect quality of care, with an empirical focus on the nursing home industry in the United States. Chapter 3 studies the effects that an increase in physician financial transparency has on medical care, in particular the treatment of heart disease patients and the implications on their welfare. Standing at the intersection of antitrust and intellectual property laws, Chapter 4 presents the interactions between pharmaceutical companies in response to a restriction on patent settlement.
