520 3 |a A study of the infrared spectra of Na, U, Pb, and Ag perxenates was conducted to understand the Xe-- O bonding properties in these compounds. All the spectra show an intense band in the 850 to 880 cm<sup>-1</sup> region, which may be identified with the nu <sub>3</sub>(f<sub>iu</sub>) vibration of the octahedral [XeO<sub>6</sub>] grouping. The possible structures of xenate and perxenate ions and compounds are discussed.
