Selected semiconductors have been cut and polished to the prismatic shape required of the substrate electrode. The spectral and energetic characteristics of several series of cyanine dyes have been determined; their photoelectrochemical behavior has been studied using standard techniques prior to use in the ATR system. Experimentation with these dyes in the ATR arrangement is now in progress.
