Item Description:Originally attributed to Charles I, but, according to Madan (p. 125-33), written by John Gauden, who probably included some authentic writings of the King.
The portrait is signed "Guil: Marshall sculpsit"; in this issue the portrait is Marshall's original design, the second state (cf. Madan, p. 177)
First two words of title in Greek characters.
Printer's and publisher's names from Madan; the publication year is given according to Lady Day dating.
The last leaf is blank.
Identified by Madan as the "second edition", with two square blocks added to title page and text reset; epigram has mis-spelling "mali" for "mala" on title page; some copies have pagination errors.
Harvard copy has blank leaves inserted at end of quires M-O and following P5; portrait of King Charles in this copy faces p. 1.
Bodleian copy has "mali" corrected to "mala" on title page; frontispiece portrait bound facing title page.
