Item Description: | A letter of transmittal is addressed to the Senate and House of Representatives and is signed by Maine Governor John Hubbard. It is dated Jan. 21, 1852. Included with the letter is "a communication from Alexandre Vattemare, Agent of the State for International Exchanges." (Page [1]). The report is followed by "List of works presented to the State of Maine, by the French Executive, Scientific Establishments and Private Individuals of France, through Alexandre Vattemare," with an appendix that includes copies of correspondence from numerous persons in various French agencies (pages 6-30). This is followed by brief reports from representatives of Sweden, Switzerland, and a German jurist. The letter of transmittal indicates that Vattemare has not received compensation for many years. |
