This is done to encourage research, reflection, critical thinking and creative conflict resolution among university students, demonstrating autonomy and relying on their own competencies. A diagnosis of the mentoring program for students in the first cycles of the Instituto Pedagógico de Piura was carried out and it was found that the majority did not know the dimensions of the program. In addition, more than half of the students presented low levels in the cognitive, procedural and attitudinal dimensions of learning achievement. Therefore, a Mentoring Model based on pedagogical guidance, supported by Ausubel's cognitive theory, was proposed to improve students' academic achievement.
