This outfit, commonly dubbed 'The Lost Quintet' for simple fact that, unlike the previous two quintets, the first with Coltrane, the second with Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams, Ron Carter and Wayne Shorter, it remained a stage formation and never recorded in a studio. Davis will tour with them until mid 1970 (the album *At Fillmore*, recorded in June 1970, features the same lineup, bar Wayne Shorter, and with the addition of Keith Jarrett and saxophonist Steve Grossman), finding in their combined talents the right vector through which to channel his revolutionary new musical direction. In what ways does the Lost Quintet mark a pivotal period? It opened up the sonic field, allowing a rhythmic surge of new sound which traversed the power of rock and emancipating free expression: Chick Corea proliferates the soundscape with his electric piano, Wayne Shorter's whimsical discourse is given full voice. This archive raises a question: the date is not specified but the concert would have been filmed at the Salle Pleyel. It most likely took place during the 1969 festival tour, seeing as the line-up is the same as the concert given on July 25 at the Festival d'Antibes - Juan Les Pins; however, the repertoire is different.
