Description
Summary:Reading is of great importance for the formation and education of children and young people in a modern democratic society. Cracking the reading code is given political, pedagogical and personal importance that goes far beyond reading techniques. Even so, a number of children and young people have a reluctance to read and even develop avoidance strategies, and many find no joy in reading. Reading and literature researcher Thomas Illum Hansen maps the driving forces that respectively inhibit and promote reading. He combines literary, philosophical, psychological, sociological and sociocultural studies of reading and presents a model for how we can talk about what engages or moves us when we read. The book is a coherent proposal for how teachers, counselors and librarians based on a nuanced language about the driving forces of reading can contribute to more children and young people becoming part of a stimulating and creative reading and writing culture.
