Description
Summary:The Bazán family business was founded by Miguel Bazán and has thrived in the agro-industry sector in Peru for 60 years. Miguel chose his youngest son Pablo as successor, and as Pablo and his siblings are getting older, the issue of passing ownership to the next generation has become increasingly important. The business has thrived, and family members have widely varying views about ownership. At this juncture, the senior members and owners of the family are wondering whether the next generation of owners feels the responsibility of ownership, and whether they have become too separated from the main family to be able to act with a unified voice to manage the family business. This case invites students to ponder upon issues such as "what is the meaning of 'ownership'?" Whether it is possible for everyone involved with the Bazán family business to have a similar vision of ownership when at least some family members had already given up their ownership in the business for all practical purposes, is a question that the family is struggling with.
