Summary: | Extract from the speeches of the Senecas, Cayugas, and Onondagas to Sir William Johnson at Fort Johnson the 14th June 1757. The Senecas spoke first--they had brought about a cessation of arms with the Delaware, except the ones on the Ohio who were under the sway of the French.Johnson spoke on the 16th of June. He was pleased about the cessation of hostilities. He reminded them that Chief Teedyusiung had complained to the Governor of Pennsylvania about land fraud and a meeting was set up in the spring to settle the question. Many people came to the meeting, but not Teedyusiung. Did the Senecas understand why he behaved like that? The Senecas replied on the 19th. They had sent a messenger to the Delaware on the Ohio, but did not yet have a response. They did not know why Teedyusiung did not come, but they would find out. Peter Wrascall had examined the document for accuracy. |
