Summary:Communication from the president of the Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road Company to the House regarding the sale or hypothecation of state bonds, as well as other issues. The report is addressed to the Speaker of the House of Delegates and is signed by Louis McLane, President. The report concludes, "The foregoing remarks comprehend all the changes which have been made in the year 1841 in the freight of flour and other articles transported on the Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road. I ask permission to add that, the existing rates are not higher, than those adopted on other roads; in many instances they are not so high, and that a lower charge for transportation than the company now make would considerably diminish the annual revenue, and consequently reduce the amount paid to the State." A table showing the cost per mile for different products is included, showing rates of 3-8 cents per ton per mile for different products.
