The report concludes, "The foregoing remarks comprehend all the changes which have been made in the year 1841 in the freight of flour and other articles transported on the Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road. I ask permission to add that, the existing rates are not higher, than those adopted on other roads; in many instances they are not so high, and that a lower charge for transportation than the company now make would considerably diminish the annual revenue, and consequently reduce the amount paid to the State." A table showing the cost per mile for different products is included, showing rates of 3-8 cents per ton per mile for different products. | ||
