520 |a This study was conducted to examine the reactions of children, parents, and teachers to the Loan Video Programme in Western Australia, which supplies videocassette recordings of the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Commission) school broadcasts to primary Distance Education Centre and School of the Air students in remote locations. Findings reported are based on data collected from unstructured interviews and questionnaires sent to 141 parents (with a 71% rate of return) and 38 teachers. Following an introduction and description of research methods, the discussion covers the attitudes of teachers, parents, and students; viewing patterns; integration of the videocassette programs with the curriculum; return and retention of videocassettes; the program newsletter; additional programs; and administration. Analysis of the data indicates that the program has been well received despite problems related to integrating ABC broadcasts with existing syllabi and to students completing follow-up activities. Positive benefits attributed to the program include greater student motivation to learn, increases in general knowledge, reductions in social and cultural isolation, and enhanced parental involvement. Appendices contain the study questionnaires. (Author/LMM)
