Summary: | This document evaluates the first year of an experimental continuous progress program in a Pennsylvania elementary school. The report covers (1) a summary and a discussion of the evaluation implications, (2) a compendium of other nongraded school studies, (3) a description of the experimental school, (4) a discussion on program structure and staff characteristics as variables, (5) an outline of the ideal educational program as proposed by the State, (6) an evaluation of the graded program, (7) an appraisal of the continuous progress program, (8) the results of student achievement and attitude change tests, (9) the data on parent and teacher attitude change, and (10) a brief examination of the conditions necessary to implement successful educational innovation. Two appendixes provide descriptions of the methodology and the instruments employed and a cost comparison between the graded and the continuous progress schools. (Author) |
