Assessment methods discussed include observation of student behavior patterns and more formal instruments (such as the "Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale," the "Mother's Assessment of the Behavior of Her Infant,""Parent Behavior Progression" and the "Preschool Behavior Questionnaire"). Intervention issues are addressed in terms of prevention as well as home and center-based approaches including developmental therapy and the Portage Project Model. Reactions to the paper by teachers, administrators, and faculty members conclude the monograph. (CL)
