The letters are by Pope Gregory XV and Charles Stuart, later King of Great Britain.
The papal letter was originally published in 1623 as "The Pope's letter to the Prince in Latine, Spanish, and English." An English translation of both letters was published in 1650 as the latter part of "The King of Scotlands negotiations at Rome"
